The M1 fairway woods and hybrids emphasize adjustability with a sliding weight positioned in the sole… The M2 fairway wood incorporates TaylorMade's variable thickness, inverted cone face design, a technology usually reserved for drivers to distribute more of a spring-like effect across a wider area of the face.

The Epic 3 wood is 179 cc. The M2 is 175 cc. Odd you found M2 too big off the deck but loved the Epic which is a tiny bit bigger. The smaller head of the M1 3 wood isn't as explosive as the M2 3 wood. Adjusting the sliding week does make a difference in both light and feel of the club. Quote.

TaylorMade M1 Fairway is $50 more expensive than an average fairway wood ($129.99). TaylorMade M2 2017 is a well-known and one of the most expensive options. It's in the top 3 bestselling fairway woods and has dozens of popular alternatives in the same price range, such as TaylorMade Evenflow M6 or Wilson Staff D7 .

This club is perfect for better players who prefer a compact head and a one-stop-shop in their fairway woods, as opposed to ultimate customization like the M1. The M2 Tour fairway, therefore, best serves as a reliable, predictable go-to club that does the single job its asked, and does it well. Features & Benefits

That dull thwack is awful. As another opinion, I found the M2 2017 easier to hit consistently than the Epic fairway. Both from tee and deck. Porsche928: I had the M2 2017 and it was huge too hard off the deck. Never hit the M1 2017 but had the old M1 2016 for a demo and loved it. Further Reading: TaylorMade 2017 M2 Fairway Woods

Last year I took advantage of one of those +50% trade in specials and got a fairway wood. I hit both the M2 and the M1. Saw no difference in performance but the M1 looked better to me at address. i wanted the adjustability as well which I saw you don't care about. I went with the 3hl because its easier to launch than a 15 degree and just as long.

The impact does sound and feel much better off the c300 Super Alloy face than the previous M1 and if I was pushed I would probably say that the 2017 M1 has the edge on the M2 Tour fairway as well. The 2017 M1 is certainly more flexible than the M2 Tour as there is also a lighter and sleeker aluminium Loft Sleeve that enables you to vary the loft by +/- 2° in increments of 1°, 0.6° and 0.4°.

Like the M2 Driver, the TaylorMade 2017 M2 has a white top line and carbon crown. The standard version is the M2 fairway wood is a little larger and rounder with a bigger face. The M2 Tour model has a smaller footprint with a smaller face and more of a pear shape. Flip the M2 over and the sole is fairly plain.

For players who need to hit precision fairway wood shots that hold greens, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere . In terms of launch, the M2 is a bit higher launching than RBZ and other previous TaylorMade FWs, but I would not rate it as the easiest to launch of highest launching fairway wood.

The 2017 M1 fairway wood’s look will be familiar as it follows the scheme of its predecessor. From address, the 2017 M1 fairway wood’s footprint is more compact with a shallow-ish face. A slight difference is that the white topline curves as it transitions into the black carbon composite crown whereas the 2016 model was straight.
