I've read that North Goa is the best area to stay during monsoon, but which beach area would be best for me? I'm not a party guy - really i'm looking to chill and soak up some atmosphere along with good food and drinks! Also hoping to check out the forts and see the Dudhsagar Waterfall.

Baga, especially, is favored by Indian tourists during the monsoon. Unfortunately, many groups of guys do get drunk and rowdy, and women may feel uncomfortable. Instead, going inland to experience Goa's hinterland and villages is recommended, in places such as Aldona, Saligao or Siolim.

Re: Best area to stay in Goa. South is better than north. But during rainy season since there is nothing much on the beach, it is better to stay in Panjim. Too early to comment on rain conditions in August but will be mainly on & off (typical Shravan conditions).
