Space Engineers runs on two separate sets of voxel-code. Natural objects don't seem to cost much computer resources but can never move. Artificial objects are made of 3d grids, can move, but cost a lot of processor time and memory, limiting the amount of ships and buildings players can create on a single server.

This might help: Press F1 - Basic Controls - Miscellaneous - Open voxel hand settings - to see the key to use and Press F1 - Advanced Controls - Voxel Hands - Open voxel hand settings - to see the key to use (H?)
