We describe methods of astronomical image reconstruction based on Tikhonov's regularization theory. A linear algorithm performs unconditional minimization of the target function (Tikhonov's functional) using a two-dimensional, fast Hartley transform. A nonlinear algorithm then uses projection of the gradient onto a set of nonnegative functions for minimization.

The rendezvous with the comet is the third mission for the Deep Impact spacecraft.

Why reduce astronomy images?

A focal reducer takes the light cone from a slower optical system, f/10 for example, and focuses it to a smaller area, effectively reducing the focal length and speeding up the focal ratio. A telescope's native image circle represents the limits of the data the instrument can produce.
