❔ Would spaceships be more like submarines like?

No. There’s a great bit in Futurama which illustrates the reason, where the spaceship ends up underwater: Leela: Depth at 45 hundred feet, 48 hundred, 50 hundred! 5000 feet! Farnsworth: Dear Lord, that's over 150 atmospheres of pressure. Fry: How ...

❔ Would spaceships be more like submarines or air?

You wouldn't instantly die, but life would be measure in no more than days, possibly hours. Leaking seals would let air out and the black hull would collect lots of heat through radiation. If that's the core question, will a submarine make a good spaceship, the answer is no.

A submarine would make a great spaceship. I don't know why the other answers say otherwise. The difference between a spaceship and a submarine aren't that large. Of course it isn't automatically ready to go to space, it would need a lot of improvements, but not as much as you would think.

Small submarine launched missiles and cruise missiles are standard equipment on many military submarines. But you’re probably thinking of something that goes underwater and moves around like a submarine, then goes into space and moves around like a space ship, or the other way around, and maybe back and forth several times.

It depends on your definition of “some modification”. First submarines are HEAVY. They have to be. they have very thick skins. Spaceships are light. They have to be in order to climb out of our gravity well. So unless you have a magic way of getti...

Spacecraft are designed to contain internal pressure of not more than one atmosphere; submarines are designed to withstand dozens of atmospheres of external pressure.

All we've seen are basic rockets (useful for escaping Earth's gravity well), plane-like space shuttles (useful for re-entering it), Moon modules (the lunar lander), and modular orbital tubes (the ...

Submarines would exclusively navigate within hyperspace or nebula type of stellar field which they would attack any enemy ship that would be passing. It would detect both the gravitational and light shift of an FTL capable ship and basically mine or torpedo the predicted path of the enemy who would never see the attack before it happened.

The only real-world spacecraft that bother with wings are ones designed to make regular landings on runways, such as the retired Space Shuttle, the upcoming Lynx (a suborbital two-seater from XCOR ...

A standalone submarine or a sub-orbiter duo would likely be flagship missions, Oleson said. Flagships are NASA's most expensive and ambitious missions, with price tags generally in excess of $2 ...

And it really makes sense in a real world application. Like a submarine, a starship is heavily relient on sensors. In fact, without sensors the ship is practically crippled. That's why redundancies are so important. At least from a command and control perspective, there are lots of parallels. 1.

Spaceships are frequently armed with torpedoes, along with guns and plasma beams. Ship-to-ship combat tactics involve slipping in and out of real space and sneaking up on your target through hyperspace. The second book in particular contains a climactic space battle which plays out like submarine warfare.

A ship could achieve artificial gravity by rotating about its axis. To be practical, the radius of rotation would have to be quite large. Additionally, a ship could create artificial gravity by constantly accelerating forwards. Shows that portray artificial gravity without rotation or constant forward acceleration are simply non-physical.
